Review by Isabel
This is a great book to go through. The Jane's Guns Recognition Guide is a delightful pictorial romp through the guns of modern times. There is writing too, but, oh the pictures! And let me explain why. As is usual when beginning a new book, I read the front cover and the back cover, skimmed for information about the authors, and made sure the book was properly broken in, so as to insure the longevity of the publication. Then I started.
Page number 1: I just looked at the "guns". I tried not to look at any thing else. I wanted to see if I could objectively look at the pictures and develop my taste in what I thought looked good. Then then I put a sticky on the pages of the items I liked. Some guns I recognized right off, and of course some I had never seen before in my life. I quickly found what I thought was aesthetically pleasing and what I thought looked terrible. What I did discover when looking through the book again to read the text, the firearms I really liked were really liked by others as well. This I based on what is still in production. I also started to develop a wish list, which has gotten quite extensive.
This book measures about 5 inches by 8 inches. In some ways it is a bit small. But then again it is a reference guide, not a coffee table book. I would have loved to see larger versions of all of the pictures, taken in the same way with the same background and a little more text. (I think that "someone" wants a coffee table book). I highly recommend this as a reference guide, because that is what it is.
It is not just a source of the wealth of information it provides, but
also it is great entertainment for the hours you just want to sit on a
sofa and dream. Even though Jane's is not meant for the coffee table,
that is where it sits.
