A Girl and Airsoft by Isabel
As
a child I had a very active imagination. I would spend countless
hours purposefully going from place to place in my house with a black
cape tied around my neck and my mothers cuff like bracelet on my arm.
Leaping from the top of the stair case or the running jump on to the
bed were considered flying. The kitchen was central command from
which all manner of heroics were staged. My fathers prized Texas
instruments calculator, something I was not supposed to be playing
with, was my ultra sophisticated computer. In my minds eye I was the
graceful yet powerful superhero, like Wonder Woman or Isis, tackling
each mission with technical and physical suave and prowess. But
really I was a bit klutzy and would never be mistaken for a super
hero of any kind. But this imagination instilled in me a belief that
I could be those things I wasn't, a belief I still have. This is why
as a girl I now play airsoft.

From
the outside, it is an unassuming building in the middle of an
industrial park somewhere in the urban sprawl of the DC suburbs. Only
the green and white sign over the door hints at what takes place
behind the frosted glass windows. However, the experienced airsofter
will immediately notice the occasional stray BB on the ground telling
him or her that they are indeed, in the right place.

I've had numerous conversations with folk over whether or not it's
possible to paint black plastic to look like wood so I thought I'd have
a go! In main this is not a new technique, but I've just extended it to
start with a black base rather than just "aging" an existing woodgrain
effect.
I started out with my TSD Pump
Shotgun...

After
years of, shall we call it, “traveling” to nasty and smelly
foreign lands, We've come to appreciate clean odorless gear,
especially when it's on your buddy next to you. And we can appreciate
the sinking feeling of finding that great set of pouches at the
bottom of that bin in the army navy surplus store that wreaks of
mildew and rot.

When I first got into airsoft and
started working on replica AEGs I noticed that we were using
bushings instead of bearings. I asked the local airsoft gunsmith and
his response was that 6mm bearings just couldn't take any kind of
load or speed without coming apart. At that time there was a very
limited number of 7mm boxes available and they were very expensive.
Years later and 7mm mechboxes are still rare and sometimes expensive.
So I embarked on a quest to find if I could step up my el cheapo ACM
mechboxes to 7mm and install bearings. After multiple attempts here is
what I found worked for me.

I'm
always on the lookout for small tools that I can put in my portable,
on the field, tool set. Well, this holiday season I think I found one
of the best, for the cheapest price. A micro-multi-tool from Home Depot for only $2. A multi-tool is essentially a pair of pliers with other tools stored in the handles.

A monocular for searching the shadows?
The idea of using a monocular to spot the opposition force in the shadows gets me a perplexed
look from most people. They automatically assume that the reason for the monocular is
to only look at things far away.
